Therapy Packs & the Materials Editor

The Materials Editor is PhonoLex's primary surface (since 7.0.0): an editable therapy pack of words, contrast sets, and sentences that you curate and export as printable materials. The six search tools remain fully usable on their own — and each doubles as a picker that adds results straight into the pack you're editing.

Starting a pack

The landing page asks "What are you targeting?" and offers curated target tiles:

  • Initial /ɹ/ — word-initial /ɹ/ with picture cards, ordered easiest-first
  • Final /s/ — plurals, possessives, and third-person verbs
  • k vs t (fronting) — velar-fronting minimal pairs plus target words and sentences
  • Stopping — fricatives (f, v, s, z, sh, th) for children who stop continuants
  • Vocalic /ɹ/ — r-controlled vowels (er, ir, ur)

More targets… lists additional presets (e.g. Gliding of liquids) and Start blank opens an empty pack for power users. Each tile seeds a full pack — words, contrasts, and sentences retrieved live from the lexicon and corpus — that opens directly in the editor.

Editing

A pack has three material sections (Words, Contrasts, Sentences) plus clinician notes. In each section you can:

  • Remove items, or add them manually with the quick-add fields (single words, contrast pairs, typed sentences)
  • Add from the tools: each section has an "Add from …" affordance that opens the matching tool (Word Lists, Contrast Sets, Sentences) in picker mode; results gain an Add to editor button
  • Picture cards render automatically for words with imagery

My Materials (in the editor header) lists your saved packs with open, rename, duplicate, and delete. Start over empties the current pack's materials while keeping its title and target.

Drafts are saved on this device

Packs persist locally in your browser (versioned schema, migrated automatically on upgrades) — there is no account and no cloud copy. Clearing site data deletes your packs; export anything you want to keep.

Export

The Export dialog produces three formats, each with a live preview:

  1. Picture cards — a printable PDF of picture-card material (pair-aware pagination for contrasts, IPA rendered with embedded DejaVu fonts)
  2. Worksheet — a scoring data-sheet with one mark per item across words, contrasts, and sentences, with per-section totals
  3. CSV — all sections in a stable spreadsheet format (IPA survives round-trip), with copy-to-clipboard

Exports reflect the edited pack exactly — removed items never appear.

Notes

  • Pack seeding draws from the same canonical content-word vocabulary as Word Lists and Contrast Sets; sentences come from the curated corpus.
  • The editor is decision support for clinician-guided material preparation. It does not diagnose, prescribe, or select treatment targets.
